Client(s): Downtown Brooklyn Partnership
The proposed market will be composed of a vibrant mix of quality, artisanal, culinary and retail goods that compliment (and do not directly compete with) existing businesses in the District. DBP’s marketing team will be in charge of creating additional programming and themes that would complement the experience, as well as coordinate with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce to identify “Brooklyn Made” vendors.
To better serve visitors to the plazas as well as increase and lengthen the use of public spaces in Downtown Brooklyn (particularly during the evening hours) DBP is creating a dynamic, pop-up, holiday themed outdoor market that would operate in Albee Square serving as an active, anchor destination in the District.
Together with Studio FANTÁSTICA, DBP will design, construct, and provide these vending kiosks from which individual vendors will vend. By offering a kit of parts composed of shelving and partition variations, each kiosk can be tailored to fit the needs of each vendor, vendors will also have the ability to customize the size and decor of the kiosks. The modular design can easily adapt to any site condition.
The market will be complimented by a solar powered smart LED public art lighting installation and educational graphics on renewable energy offering a unique and dynamic experience inside and outside.
