Concept, Urban Design & Installation
Client(s): JetBlue Airways Corporation
JetBlue’s tailfin designs were made into beautiful Pole Designs that meet and greet people as they come into LIC. These Pole Designs, made from steel frames and rope light, are attached to existing street lights and randomly placed throughout LIC.
Using JetBlue’s Barcode tailfin design as inspiration, these radiant strips of light help create an unprecedented-interactive experience from Crescent St. to Dutch Kills Green. Motion sensors interacting with adjacent bike lane and street trigger different strings of rope light as cars and bikers go by.
This piece of the JetBlue’s Temporary Lighting Experience draws inspiration from connecting flight patterns. Plaza visitors are treated to a real-time lighting symphony that reacts to its surroundings. This installation stretches all the way to Crescent St. bringing a unique opportunity to experience LIC in a new and interactive way.
JetBlue’s Temporary Lighting Experience brings a sophisticated and unifying feel to LIC. One that can be experienced in many different ways, and from any corner of the neighborhood! Whether you’re driving or biking, or simply admiring them from your office as the lights react to the different activities happening down below.
